Description
Summary:During the second half of the sixteenth century md into the seventeenth, the voyages backed by the Spanish crown give the Spanish control of the route to the East. This document makes an effort to rescue the biographical information of the seafarer and explorer Sebastian Vizcaino, who made two crossings to Upper and Lower California. The information was gathered from primary sources such as the Archive General de las Indias (AGI) and the Archive General de la Naci6n (AGN), as well as from a number of secondary sources.  In addition, using an interdisciplinary socio-historical focus, the details of  Vizcaino's  voyages have been described, with particular emphasis on the geographical discoveries and the increased scientific knowledge derived from the second trip which Vizcaino and Fray Antonio de la Ascenci6n made to the California.
