During the sampling period, males outnumbered females in the catch by almost two to one. Sex ratio was different from 1:1 in May, June, October, December, February and March. Male and female crabs attained sexual maturity at a size of 7.15 and 11.20 mm carapace length, respectively. Size at maturity for 50% of the population was 19.28 and 16.64 mm carapace length for males and females, respectively. As indicated by the presence of ovigerous females during the whole sampling period, the population can reproduce continuously during the year. Fecundity estimates of ovigerous females ranged from 34 to 4777 eggs (average = 1024 ± 93). Relative fecundity was 1.90 to 207.00 (average = 58.96 ± 4.54) eggs/mm carapace length, 1.82 to 200.29 (average = 56.32 ± 4.37) eggs/mm carapace width, and 12.19 to 1656.07 eggs/g (average = 465.16 ± 36.67). Fecundity was linear and positively related to carapace length and width, total weight and ovigerous mass weight. Embryonic development was divided into three stages according to the color of the ovigerous mass and the characteristics of the embryo. Se estudiaron algunos aspectos reproductivos de Mithrax forceps, basados en 580 ejemplares (380 machos y 200 hembras) recolectados en Chacachacare, Isla de Margarita, Venezuela, de abril de 1984 a marzo de 1985 y de julio a noviembre de 1991. Durante todo el periodo de muestreo, el número de machos tendió a duplicar el de las hembras. La proporción de sexos se alejó significativamente de la relación esperada 1:1 en los meses de mayo, junio, octubre, diciembre, febrero y marzo. Los machos y las hembras comienzan a madurar a una talla de 7.15 y 11.20 mm de longitud del caparazón, respectivamente. Las tallas de madurez del 50% de la población fueron de 19.28 y 16.64 mm de longitud del caparazón para los machos y las hembras, respectivamente. La presencia de hembras ovígeras en la mayoría de los muestreos indicó que la especie se reproduce durante todo el año. La fecundidad osciló entre 34 y 4777 huevos (promedio = 1024 ± 93). La fecundidad relativa en relación a la longitud del caparazón varió entre 1.90 y 207.00 huevos/mm (promedio = 58.96 ± 4.54). La fecundidad relativa respecto al ancho del caparazón varió de 1.82 a 200.29 huevos/mm (promedio = 56.32 ± 4.37). La fecundidad relativa en relación al peso tuvo un valor promedio de 465.16 ± 36.67 y osciló entre 12.19 y 1656.07 huevos/g. La fecundidad estuvo relacionada de manera lineal y positiva con la longitud y ancho del caparazón, con el peso total y con el peso de la masa ovígera. El desarrollo embrionario fue dividido en tres fases según la coloración de la masa ovígera y las características del embrión.
