Se describe la primera etapa de zoea del cangrejo tropical Panopeus purpureus Lockington, de la familia Xanthidae, obtenida a partir de una hembra ovígera recolectada en un manglar de la costa del Pacífico de Panamá. Ésta es la primera descripción de un estadio larvario del género Panopeus en el Pacífico. Los caracteres morfológicos son similares a los de las zoeas, previamente descritas, de otros Panopeus del Atlántico y las pequeñas diferencias son comentadas.
