In addition, surface salinity and temperature work measured at these stations. The temperature showed a marked seasonal trend with values between 32ºC (September) and 16ºC (January). The monthly salinity fluctuated between values of 3.5 and 40‰ The mean monthly concentration of phosphates had values of 0.21 to 3.6 µM. The nitrates had values of 0.42 to 3.8 PM, whereas the nitrites had concentrations from undetectable values to 0.38 µM. The total, inorganic and organic seston had minimum values of 10.2, 7.0 and 3.0 g/m3 and maximum values of 62.0, 35.2 and 6.9 g/n3, respectively. Temporally, the maxima and minima of the variables only partially coincided. The spatial distribution of the concentrations of each variable showed homogeneity on several occasions and, during the months when this did not occur, there was no defined pattern. The strong tidal exchange could be responsible for the high variability of the system. Se tomaron muestras mensuales (mayo de 1987 a julio de 1988) por triplicado de agua superficial en ocho estaciones de la laguna costera La Cruz, Sonora, para determinar las concentraciones de nitratos, nitritos, fosfatos y seston. Además, se midió la temperatura y salinidad superficial en esas estaciones. La temperatura mostró una clara tendencia estacional con valores entre 32ºC (septiembre) y 16ºC (enero). La salinidad mensual fue muy fluctuante con valores entre 35 y 40‰. La concentración mensual promedio de fosfatos registró valores de 0.21 a 3.6 µM. Los nitratos registraron valores de 0.42 a 3.8 µM, mientras que los nitritos mostraron desde valores indetectables hasta de 0.38 µM. El seston total, inorgánico y orgánico presentaron niveles mínimos dc 10.2, 7.0 y 3.0 g/m3 y máximos de 62.0, 35.2 y 6.9 g/m3, respectivamente. Temporalmente, los máximos y mínimos de las variables coincidieron solo parcialmente. La distribución espacial de las concentraciones dé cada variable mostraron homogeneidad en varias ocasiones y en los meses en que esto no se presentó no hubo un patrón definido. El fuerte intercambio mareal puede ser el responsable de la alta variabilidad en el sistema.
