Commercial chlorine (HCIO3Na) in different concentrations (750, 500, 250 and 100 µL L–1), with different treatment times (60, 45, 30 and 15 min), was used each week for four weeks. The growth of all epiphytes and G. pectinata was adversely affected with high concentrations (750 and 500 µL L–1). At the lowest concentration (100 µL L-1), the growth of G. pectinata was not significantly affected; however, the concentration was lethal for epiphytes. The reduction of epiphytes in each treatment was 100% after four weeks. Cultivos bajo condiciones controladas del alga roja, Gigartina pectinata Daw., se trataron con cloro comercial (HClO3Na) para reducir el crecimiento de epifitas. Se utilizaron distintas concentraciones (750, 500, 250 y 100 µL L–1) de cloro comercial, con diferentes tiempos de tratamiento (60, 45, 30 y 15 min) por semana. Tanto las epífitas como G. pectinata se vieron afectadas en su crecimiento con altas concentraciones (750 y 500 µL L–1). A una menor concentración (100 µL L–1), el crecimiento de G. pectinata no fue afectado significativamente; sin embargo, la concentración fue letal para las epífitas. La reducción de epífitas en todos los tratamientos fue del 100% después de cuatro semanas.
