Agardh of the west coast of the Baja California peninsula were assessed during the summer of 1986, employing aerial photography with infrared film to determine areas and field samplings in five localities to estimate surface biomass. The total yield was estimated through the statistical analysis for a stratified random sampling. In the northern zone as far as Punta San Antonio, B.C., the distribution of the beds increased slightly compared to spring 1986 (Hernández et al., 1989b). There is a discontinuity from this point to Islas San Benito, where the beds reappear and extend to Punta San Pablo, B.C.S. The area between this last site and Punta San Hipólito, B.C.S., continued without beds of Macrocystis pyrifera. A bed covering of 18,682,018 m2 and a yield of 97,804 ± 6,331 tons were calculated in the summer of 1986. Of this yield, 67.74% was located to the north of the discontinuity of Bahía Vizcaíno, B.C., and 35.23% was located to the South. Seasonal variations of the resource for each study zone and global seasonal variation were analyzed, finding that the most productive seasons are spring and summer. Se evaluaron los mantos de Macrocystis pyrifera (L.) C. Agardh, durante el verano de 1986, en la costa occidental de la península de Baja California, empleando fotografía aérea con película infrarroja para determinar las áreas y muestreos de campo en cinco localidades para estimar la biomasa superficial. La cosecha total se estimó empleando el análisis estadístico para un muestreo aleatorio estratificado. La distribución de los mantos presentó un ligero incremento con respecto a primavera de 1986 (Hemández et al., 1989b) en la zona norte hasta Punta San Antonio, B.C. En este punto se inicia una discontinuidad hasta las Islas San Benito, B.C., donde continúa la presencia de mantos hasta Punta San Pablo, B.C.S. El área entre este último punto y Punta San Hipólito, B.C.S., continuó con ausencia de mantos de M. pyrifera. En verano de 1986 se calculó una cobertura de mantos de 18,682,018 m2 y una cosecha de 97,804 ± 6,331 toneladas, de las cuales 67.74% se localizaron hacia el norte de la discontinuidad de la Bahía Vizcaíno, B.C., y 35.23% se localizaron en la parte sur. Se analizan las variaciones estacionales de este recurso para cada zona de estudio y la variación estacional global, encontrando que las estaciones más productivas son primavera y verano.
