From presentations in circles, athenaeums and the university, the writer's conference was transformed into a theatrical show with unexpected success. The Argentine periodical press was the space for the dissemination of this activity, since they were exhibitable events: a theater, a recognized speaker, an audience and a text. This article provides a definition and periodization of the conferences, and also analyzes the ways in which Argentine newspapers and magazines represented them and made them visible to the reading public between the years 1880 and 1914, when it became a cultural practice of fashion, which became popular, and which went from having great acceptance to receiving criticism from the press itself.
