The evaluation is addressed in both the environmental and socio-economic context. The brick production belongs to the informal economic sector without any regulatory scheme and without taxation. Its very low technology has serious impacts on the binational environment of the Paso del Norte region, through the highly polluted emissions to the atmosphere. However, the social and economic context of people working in this industry does not allow important changes, thus, making difficult any initiative for the brick kilns improvements and relocation. The main information source was a very concise survey applied to whole universe of brick makers. Data survey was registered in a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment allowing us the analysis of the brick kilns in a spatial context. Finally, this document presents a descriptive profile of the brick kilns production and for the brickmakers. Este trabajo evalúa la situación urbano-ambiental de los hornos ladrilleros tradicionales y los ecológicos en el municipio de Juárez. La evaluación se centra en los aspectos ambientales y socioeconómicos. La producción de ladrillo se sitúa en el sector informal, por lo que no cuenta con un esquema regulatorio ni con el pago de impuestos. Se siguen utilizando las técnicas tradicionales para la elaboración del ladrillo, lo que provoca emisiones altamente contaminantes a la atmósfera. Esto tiene un fuerte impacto en el medio ambiente a nivel binacional, en la región Paso del Norte. Sin embargo, el contexto socioeconómico de los trabajadores de esta industria no permite cambios importantes, además, hace difícil cualquier iniciativa de mejorar y relocalizar los hornos ladrilleros. La principal fuente de información para esta investigación fue una encuesta aplicada al universo de los productores de ladrillo. Los datos de la encuesta se registraron en un sistema de información geográfica permitiendo el análisis de los hornos ladrilleros en un contexto espacial. Finalmente, este documento presenta un perfil descriptivo de la producción de los hornos ladrilleros y de los productores.
