In particular, it is emphasized in the inquiries on the Chiapas-Guatemala section, published since the 1990s. The bibliography presented has in common the inclusion of aspects that allow us to understand the social dynamics in the border territories, beyond the perspective of migratory flows. The need to deepen studies that allow understanding the life of the permanent inhabitants of the southern border is concluded. El objetivo del artículo es ofrecer una revisión sistematizada de los estudios realizados sobre la producción social de la frontera sur. En especial se enfatiza en las indagaciones sobre el tramo Chiapas-Guatemala, publicadas desde la década de 1990. La bibliografía que se presenta tiene en común el incluir aspectos que permiten comprender la dinámica social en los territorios fronterizos, más allá de la mirada de los flujos migratorios. Se concluye la necesidad de profundizar en estudios que permitan comprender la vida de los habitantes permanentes de la frontera sur.
