In addition to the publication of articles in the press about this subject, the axis of interest led him to become, from 1882 to 1885, president of the Sociedad Argentina para la Protección de los Animales. The following article analyzes the foundations and purposes that Sarmiento postulated to legitimize the incipient task of defense of the animal as well as the contact points established between them and the main core of his thought, literature and political program. Entre 1882 y 1888, Sarmiento produjo una serie de textos y proyectos dirigidos a discutir y modificar el trato que los animales recibían en la Argentina, tanto por parte de individuos como de las instituciones estatales. Además de la publicación de artículos en la prensa sobre la materia, ese eje de interés lo condujo a convertirse, desde 1882 y hasta 1885, en presidente de la Sociedad Argentina para la Protección de los animales. El siguiente artículo analiza los fundamentos y finalidades que Sarmiento postuló para legitimar la incipiente labor de defensa del animal, así como los puntos de contacto que establece entre éstos y los núcleos principales de su pensamiento, su literatura y su programa político.
