Sumario:Hermeneutical approach to the presence of tragedy as aesthetic category in a set of length film works made in Colombia between 1964 and 2016, a period of negotiation between the current national government and two guerrilla groups. The notions raised in: The poetics, by Aristotle (4th century), based on the imitation of noble actions, are addressed; The birth of the tragedy in music, by Nietzsche (1871), which emphasizes the importance of the Dionysian; The tragic feeling, by Unamuno (1912), which emphasizes the soul’s attitude of people. Contrast these notions with agents, circumstances and motivations-purposes of violence as a sociohistorical phenomenon in Colombia, in the light of some features of an unfinished and precarious modernity. Despite the breadth of the field, it is suggested that Colombian films should continue to be followed in terms of both content and form and production.
