The study was developed from an ad hoc questionnaire consisting of 62 items, which includes aspects related to the profession, socio-economic status, working conditions and health. 157 teachers completed the questionnaire. Several nonparametric tests, correlation tests and cross-tabulations independence tests were developed using the SPSS software package. The key findings indicate that the teachers feel satisfied and motivated with their profession and recognized by their community. Nevertheless, the low salary and the poor material conditions in which they develop their work may affect their health. Among the perceived needs, the need for specific training on health self-care and preventive health programs stand out.
