Results indicated that: a) participants were more willing to use ready-made search strategies and superficial approaches for the validation of information; b) different frequencies of Internet access revealed no impact on the search strategies; c) students showed an intermediate epistemological development; d) various interrelationships were found between epistemological beliefs, Internet-search strategies, and criteria for validating web information; and e) girls showed epistemological beliefs slightly more sophisticated than those of boys. Este trabajo describe un estudio exploratorio sobre 286 estudiantes de educación media del Mar del Plata (Argentina) acerca de los temas: a) lugares de acceso a Internet y sus frecuencias, b) estrategias utilizadas por los estudiantes en la búsqueda de información relevante en Internet, c) forma en que validan y dan sentido a los datos obtenidos, y d) sus creencias epistemológicas de los estudiantes. Los resultados indicaron que: a) los participantes estuvieron más dispuestos a utilizar estrategias de búsqueda elaboradas y abordajes superficiales para validar la información, b) diferentes frecuencias de acceso a Internet no revelaron impacto sobre las estrategias de búsqueda, c) los estudiantes mostraron un desarrollo epistemológico intermedio, d) se encontraron varias interrelaciones entre creencias epistemológicas, estrategias de búsqueda en Internet y criterios para validar la información de la web, y e) las mujeres mostraron creencias epistemológicas ligeramente más sofisticadas que los varones.
