The knowledge of the properties of models destined to promote competencies is of great importance for teaching-learning systems, due to their repercussions, in both the educational and labor environment world. Based on an extensive review of concepts and terms related with education and training based competency standards, the purpose of this article is to analyze a series of biases (trends, omissions, distortions, misunderstandings) common to policies and initiatives concerning training by competences. La creciente incorporación de modelos basados en estándares de competencia, en muchos sistemas educativos y de capacitación, más allá de políticas y estrategias innovadoras, responde a la difusión de estos modelos como parte de los procesos de globalización dentro de las naciones y entre ellas. El conocimiento de las propiedades de los modelos destinados al fomento de competencias es de gran importancia para los sistemas de enseñanza-aprendizaje, por las repercusiones que éstas tienen, tanto en el ámbito educativo como en el laboral. A partir de una extensa revisión de conceptos y términos relacionados con la educación y la capacitación basadas en estándares de competencia, el propósito de este artículo es analizar una serie de sesgos (tendencias, omisiones, distorsiones, malentendidos) comunes a políticas e iniciativas en materia de formación por competencias.
