Achieving higher levels of transparency and accountability in education systems is essential for attaining an adequate distribution of educational opportunities. Studies of corruption in education systems are important since they can contribute to increasing public awareness of the harmful effects of corruption and promote political support for the implementation of anti-corruption initiatives in education. This paper describes a typology of corrupt practices and develops a classification for the findings reported in the literature on corruption in education, such as causes, consequences and recommendations, as well as a classification of the methodologies applied to the study of corrupt practices. Finally, it describes the possible implications of these findings for policymakers. El logro de mayores niveles de transparencia y rendición de cuentas en los sistemas educativos es fundamental para lograr una distribución adecuada de oportunidades educacionales. El estudio de la corrupción en los sistemas educativos adquiere relevancia dado que podría aumentar la conciencia pública sobre sus efectos nocivos y proporcionar apoyo político para implementar iniciativas contra la corrupción en este sector. En este documento se describe una tipología de las prácticas de corrupción y se desarrolla una clasificación de los hallazgos encontrados en la literatura sobre la corrupción en educación, tales como causas, efectos y recomendaciones, así como la clasificación de los métodos aplicados para el estudio de las prácticas de corrupción. Por último, se describen las posibles implicaciones de estos hallazgos para los responsables de elaborar las políticas.
