The policies were identified using a 2009 database of the national system of researchers (SNI for its Spanish acronym) compiled by the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT for its Spanish acronym). The features and training paths were established. The following was analyzed; reasons for their departure, conditions for professionalization, the pattern of migration, integration in social networks plus the results of interviews with 73 foreign researchers. El artículo explora algunas características demográficas y académicas de los científicos extranjeros incorporados en instituciones mexicanas dedicadas al desarrollo de actividades educativas y científicas. Contextualizamos su situación analizando las políticas públicas y de cooperación para la atracción de científicos extranjeros. Se identificaron utilizando la base de datos 2009 del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI), elaborada por el Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT) y se establecieron sus rasgos y trayectorias formativas. Se analizaron luego las decisiones de partida, las condiciones de profesionalización, los recorridos de migración y las redes de inserción, recuperando los resultados de entrevistas hechas a 73 investigadores extranjeros.
