The assessment was carried out using an instrument that indicated the kind of information contained in the pages of textbooks. The instrument used the Delphi method with help from experts in the field, which revealed the quantity and type of content included. The research found a lack of information about this cultural event in texts aimed at teachers, parents and elementary school students. This points to a deficiency in communication regarding this characteristic of Mexican culture. Conocer los elementos plasmados y transmitidos sobre el Día de los Muertos en los libros de texto gratuitos de primaria de la República Mexicana es el origen del presente artículo, puesto que determinar lo que se está trasmitiendo a los niños sobre este elemento que forma parte de su identidad permitirá conocer nuevas formas de perpetuar las tradiciones. La evaluación se llevó a cabo con un instrumento que permitía conocer el tipo de información encontrada en los libros de texto, utilizando la técnica Delphi con ayuda de expertos en la materia, se obtuvo así la cantidad y tipo de contenidos incluidos. La investigación detectó una falta de información sobre esta manifestación cultural en los textos para maestros, padres de familia y alumnos de primaria, lo que implica una deficiente transmisión de este elemento cultural.
