| Περίληψη: | Incorporating knowledge, occupations and traditions of local cultures into the school curriculum is a challenge that currently defies teachers and schools’ management teams, both in integrating this knowledge into the curriculum and in developing teaching strategies for their achievement. After a year of qualitative fieldwork with schools and their communities and a curricular adaptation, this research proposes a pedagogical approach for the incorporation of local knowledge to natural sciences lessons. The results propose five dimensions of local knowledge that can be linked to a large number of contents and objectives present in the Chilean curriculum (where the research was made) as well as in other curricular documents. This research intends to be a contribution for the appreciation and revitalization of local cultures and also to facilitate the teaching and learning process of natural sciences, promoting inquiry based and culturally relevant activities in schools |
