Among other things, insularity is perceived not just as a physical fact, but as a consequence of the reigning social practices. En este artículo se realiza un estudio de corte histórico donde se analiza el concepto de insularidad, según el punto de vista de dos países, Haití y República Dominicana. Ambos separados por una frontera política, que a su vez marca también la diferenciación de dos culturas, una criolla y otra indígena, y dos sistemas geográficos.
