Does the border matter for health care? A study of medical services provider’s location at cities in the Mexican side of the border
description This work examines medical services providers’ spatial location patterns at the Mexican cities in the us Mexico border as a case study. Formal statistical methods are applied using data sources for each side of the border with the primary source being the National Statistic Directory of Economic Units (denue) published by the Mexican Census Bureau. Results identify the following specific medical services activities with particular relative concentrations at the border city scale: private dental offices (naics code 621211) ci= 1.32, general medicine private offices (naics code 621111) ci = 1.16, private medical diagnostics labs (naics code 621511) ci = 1.02, and private general hospitals (naics code 621398) ci = 1.03. In addition a cluster pattern around border Crossings was found for the largest city included in the study. Results suggest that trans-border health care needs in the region represent a binational integration mechanism with social opportunities for the local populations.

In addition a cluster pattern around border Crossings was found for the largest city included in the study. Results suggest that trans-border health care needs in the region represent a binational integration mechanism with social opportunities for the local populations. 2017-05-23 2021-06-03T03:38:11Z 2021-06-03T03:38:11Z info:eu-repo/semantics/article info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590 10.21670/ref.2017.36.a07 https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12930/6877 eng spa https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1131 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1148 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1157 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1166 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1175 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1184 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1194 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1203 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1340 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1341 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1342 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1343 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1344 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1345 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/590/1346 Derechos de autor 2017 Estudios Fronterizos application/pdf text/html application/xml application/epub+zip application/pdf text/html application/xml application/epub+zip image/jpeg image/jpeg image/jpeg image/jpeg image/jpeg application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet cobertura Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Estudios Fronterizos Revista; Vol. 18 No. 36 (2017); 151-168 Estudios Fronterizos; Vol. 18 Núm. 36 (2017); 151-168 2395-9134 0187-6961
