The objective of this paper is to examine what are the methods used by Mexican drug cartels to recruit migrant smugglers and which are the activities carried by former migrant smugglers in these organizations. A qualitative methodology was used, consistent in the realization, between 2011 and 2015, of interviews with 107 migrant smugglers (105 men and 2 women). This paper concludes that after 2013, there has been an increase of recruitment of migrant smugglers by drug cartels without coercion, and that the activities carried out by them are increasingly violent. 2017-09-06 2021-06-03T03:38:19Z 2021-06-03T03:38:19Z info:eu-repo/semantics/article info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/608 10.21670/ref.2017.37.a03 https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12930/6882 spa eng https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/608/1212 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/608/1213 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/608/1214 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/608/1226 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/608/1250 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/608/1251 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/608/1257 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/608/1258 Derechos de autor 2017 Estudios Fronterizos application/pdf text/html application/epub+zip application/xml text/html application/pdf application/epub+zip application/xml cobertura Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Estudios Fronterizos Revista; Vol. 18 No. 37 (2017); 41-64 Estudios Fronterizos; Vol. 18 Núm. 37 (2017); 41-64 2395-9134 0187-6961
