description |
This article documents and analyzes the response of cities in the u.s.-Mexico border region to the health emergency and a significant process of rebordering triggered by COVID-19. Like many other countries, the United States and Mexico's primary strategy to contain the spread of coronavirus has been the adoption of social distancing measures and restrictions on mobility, including the closure of the common border. An immediate implication of this process is the strengthening of national governments' presence in border health management and, potentially, the contraction of governance spaces in which subnational actors traditionally participate. By analyzing secondary data for eight pairs of co-adjacent border cities, local actors' responses to the pandemic are examined in the context of a rapid rebordering process and postpandemic governance, and cross-border cooperation scenarios are explored. |

By analyzing secondary data for eight pairs of co-adjacent border cities, local actors' responses to the pandemic are examined in the context of a rapid rebordering process and postpandemic governance, and cross-border cooperation scenarios are explored. 2021-03-26 2021-06-03T03:39:51Z 2021-06-03T03:39:51Z info:eu-repo/semantics/article info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/928 10.21670/ref.2104067 https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12930/6958 spa eng https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/928/1909 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/928/1910 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/928/1911 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/928/1912 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/928/1933 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/928/1934 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/928/1935 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/928/1936 Derechos de autor 2021 Estudios Fronterizos https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/ text/xml application/pdf application/epub+zip text/html text/xml application/pdf text/html application/epub+zip Mexico-United States Border, 2020 Frontera México-Estados Unidos, 2020 Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Estudios Fronterizos Revista; Vol. 22 (2021) Estudios Fronterizos; Vol. 22 (2021) 2395-9134 0187-6961 |
