The analysis is based on annual values from 1900 to 2001 of the winter (November through April) rainfall data for Ensenada, Baja California, which is climatologically representative of northwestern Baja California. The Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) and Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) were also examined. The results are derived from statistical and wavelet analysis of the rainfall data. The time-frequency evolution of the data shows close association with the interannual (2–7 years), decadal (10–20 years) and multidecadal (20–70 years) signals of the SOI and PDO. It is interesting to note that the multidecadal period of drought in northwestern Baja California (1941/1942 to 1976/1977) coincides with negative PDO values (characterized by cold sea surface waters off North America) and frequent La Niña events, whereas decadal rainy conditions (1977/1978 to 1998/1999) coincide with positive PDO values (characterized by warm sea surface waters off North America) and frequent and intense El Niño events. Finally, a future scenario, derived from the wavelet analysis, shows the possibility of a dry decadal period for northwestern Baja California from 1999 to 2015, approximately. Se examinaron algunas características climáticas relativas a la precipitación sobre el noroeste de Baja California (México) en relación con la variabilidad interanual, decenal y multidecenal de algunos índices del Océano Pacífico. El análisis se basa en valores anuales de 1900 a 2001 de datos de precipitación invernal (de noviembre a abril) en Ensenada, Baja California, región climatológicamente representativa del noroeste de Baja California. También se examinan el ÿndice de la Oscilación del Sur (IOS) y la Oscilación Decenal del Pacífico (ODP). Los resultados se obtuvieron de análisis estadísticos y ondiculares de los datos de precipitación invernal. La evolución tiempo-frecuencia de los datos muestra una asociación cercana con las señales interanual (2–7 años), decenal (10–20 años) y multianual (20–70 años) presentes en el IOS y la ODP. Es interesante notar que el periodo multidecenal de sequías en el noroeste de Baja California (1941/1942 a 1976/77) coincide con valores negativos de la ODP (caracterizada por aguas marinas superficiales frías frente a Norteamérica) y frecuentes eventos de La Niña, mientras que condiciones lluviosas (1977/1978 a 1998/1999) coinciden con valores positivos de la ODP (caracterizada por aguas marinas superficiales cálidas frente a Norteamérica) y frecuentes e intensos eventos El Niño.
