Effect of the toxic dinoflagellate Gymnodinium catenatum on the grazing, egg production, and hatching success of the copepod Acartia clausi

The influence of the toxic dinoflagellate Gymnodinium catenatum Graham on the reproductive response of the calanoid copepod Acartia clausi Giesbrecht was examined. Mature females of A. clausi were selected and fed a mixture of natural phytoplankton and G. catenatum in nominal ratios of 100:0%, 75:25...

Acartia clausi is an ubiquitous copepod in Concepción Bay (Baja California Sur, Mexico), and our results indicate that it was able to feed on this toxic dinoflagellate at rates similar or higher than those at which it feeds on natural phytoplankton; therefore, A. clausi could play a key role in controlling the occurrence of red tides in Concepción Bay. 2006-05-24 2021-06-03T03:55:09Z 2021-06-03T03:55:09Z info:eu-repo/semantics/article info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion Peer-reviewed Article Artículo Arbitrado https://www.cienciasmarinas.com.mx/index.php/cmarinas/article/view/1041 10.7773/cm.v32i12.1041 https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12930/7393 eng https://www.cienciasmarinas.com.mx/index.php/cmarinas/article/view/1041/938 application/pdf Iniversidad Autónoma de Baja California Ciencias Marinas; Vol. 32 No. 1B (2006); 97-109 Ciencias Marinas; Vol. 32 Núm. 1B (2006); 97-109 2395-9053 0185-3880
