The discussion is nourished around the need or shortage of a structure of knowledge set against a structure of information that, at the same time, confronts our academic tasks and reconfigures our strategies to transmit knowledge. This exercise was made from a direct non-participant observation of Internet users in auto-access public and institutional centers. The studied population was a group of students in out of school activity who were using Internet searching for topics related to “research”, “tasks” or only “to know more” about something. Este texto presenta una reflexión sobre el sujeto virtual dentro de la teoría del conocimiento y los retos de la información vertida en el hipertexto. La discusión se nutre en torno a la necesidad o insuficiencia de una estructura de conocimiento frente a una estructura de información que, aparejadas, confrontan nuestros quehaceres académicos y reconfiguran nuestras estrategias de transmisión del conocimiento. Este ejercicio se conforma a partir de una observación directa no participante de usuarios de Internet en centros de autoacceso públicos e institucionales. Se eligió una población estudiante en tiempo de actividad extraescolar con metas de “investigación”, “tareas” o sólo “saber más” respecto a un tema de búsqueda.
