Sumario:The objective of the research was to understand the perceptions held by students and teachers regarding the causes of school violence. A descriptive, qualitative study was performed in two second-cycle elementary education establishments in the Dominican Republic, with a population of 604 students and 23 teachers. Information was collected through playful, creative workshops; in-depth interviews; focus groups; and non-participant observation. The study results highlight weak friendships, adherence to gender stereotypes, and internalization of violence as a form of entertainment. The conclusions are relevant for the design and implementation of assistance programs and the eradication of school violence.
