This article intends to make a brief overview about the performance evaluation for university teachers in democratic Spain. It contents: a) considerations about teaching evaluation, in order to delimit the authors’ position in this matter, due to the fact that this position obviously conditions any revision; b) a brief summary of the history of university teachers evaluation in Spain during the last years, since the Spanish Constitution of 1978 approval; c) a typology of the evaluation plans, in order to define a map of the planning lines for evaluations applied in Spain; d) the technical guidelines for teachers´ evaluation and presentation of the current model, exampled by its application in the university of Salamanca; and e) as a conclusion, some considerations about the consequences of evaluation and its entailment with the professionalization of university teachers. El presente artículo pretende hacer una breve revisión acerca de la evaluación del desempeño del profesorado universitario en la España democrática. Se presentan: a) unas reflexiones acerca de la evaluación de la docencia, para delimitar la posición de los autores, dado que ésta condiciona indudablemente cualquier revisión; b) una breve reseña histórica de la evaluación de los docentes universitarios en España en los últimos años, desde la aprobación de la Constitución Española de 1978; c) una tipología de planes de evaluación, para definir un mapa acerca de las líneas de los planes evaluación que se aplican en España; d) las pautas técnicas para evaluar al profesorado y la presentación del modelo actual, ejemplificado en virtud de su aplicación en la universidad de Salamanca; y e) a modo de conclusión, unas reflexiones acerca de las consecuencias de la evaluación y su vinculación con la profesionalización de los docentes universitarios.
