Zusammenfassung:The purpose of this study was to identify high-effectiveness and low-effectiveness high schools. Scores were obtained from a test administered to all students upon completion of secondary education between 2012 and 2015. Four criteria are proposed to determine the effectiveness of schools: 1) extreme raw scores; 2) extreme residuals, estimated using hierarchical linear models; 3) the increase (or decrease) in scores; and 4) the increase in residuals in schools over time. These are four different but complementary perspectives used to discuss schools’ levels of effectiveness (or ineffectiveness). Results were analyzed from more than 10,000 students from 119 schools, of which 20 were identified as high-effectiveness and 24 as low-effectiveness schools. The study shows that several criteria may be used, which enable a sound selection of effective schools.
