Approaches and strategies are suggested for developing teacher-evaluation programs in the context of a generalized environment in the educational sector which is adopting the model of competencies for school reform, curriculum redesign, modifications in teaching strategies, and manners and functions of evaluation. El artículo hace un repaso sobre los principales argumentos y características atribuidas al enfoque por competencias en educación, para analizar las distintas definiciones disponibles y algunas de las propuestas sobre las competencias docentes. Se proponen criterios y estrategias para desarrollar programas de evaluación de los profesores en el contexto de un ambiente generalizado en el sector educativo que está adoptando el modelo de las competencias para realizar reformas escolares, rediseños curriculares, revisiones a las estrategias didácticas, y a las formas y funciones de la evaluación.
