In this paper we defend a view on university that fosters students' civic learning, emphasizing the benefits for their learning development and job placement process. First, we consider the opportunity that the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) has brought in order to update the matter of values in the university context and to link civic education and transversality within the same learning process. Secondly, we analyze on the one hand students' attitudes and, on the other, their interpersonal relationship and communication skills, comparing them according to the subject area of the official degrees in course of study. This is a descriptive survey study that involved a representative sample of 1,347 Spanish university students and 40 official degrees, corresponding to the five major subject areas. This statistical analysis of data allows us to state that there are substantial differences depending on the subject area, being Social Sciences students those who distinguish themselves better when showing a higher level of competence. En este artículo se defiende una visión de la universidad como lugar propicio para el aprendizaje cívico de los estudiantes; se enfatizan los beneficios para su desarrollo formativo y su proceso de inserción socio-profesional. Se examina, en primer lugar, la oportunidad que ha supuesto el Espacio Europeo de la Educación Superior (EEES) para actualizar el tema de los valores en el contexto universitario y para conectar formación cívica y transversalidad en el mismo proceso de aprendizaje. En segundo lugar se analizan las actitudes y competencias de relación y comunicación interpersonal de los universitarios, comparándolas según el área de conocimiento de la titulación que cursan. Es un estudio descriptivo mediante encuesta, con una muestra representativa de 1,347 alumnos universitarios españoles, de 40 titulaciones, correspondientes a cinco grandes áreas de conocimiento. El análisis estadístico de los datos permite afirmar que se producen diferencias importantes según el área de conocimiento, y que son los estudiantes de Ciencias Sociales quienes marcan más distancias al mostrar un mayor nivel de competencias.
