Shrnutí:This paper aims to explore the issue of rural education in context, through the eyes of community educational leaders in a program run by the National Council for Education Development (CONAFE), who provide teaching services in marginalized rural communities in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. A qualitative methodology was employed, with a focus group formed for discussion with participants. The results are presented along two lines of analysis: initiation into teaching from a perspective of subjectivity and training, and experience of the program’s principles as a pedagogical ideal that has not been fully appropriated. Some overarching guidelines for action are proposed that may help to improve the program as part of its goal to offer quality education to Mexico’s rural and marginal urban population.
