Suggestions are provided for improving the process of evaluating the quality of university institutions. El proceso de evaluación de la calidad que está viviendo la universidad española desde comienzos de la década de los noventa ha generado avances incuestionables. Sin embargo, se han detectado una serie de debilidades que han afectado el proceso con consecuencias a priori imprevisibles. En este artículo se revisan algunas debilidades, sus posibles causas y consecuencias y se presentan sugerencias para la mejora del proceso de evaluación de la calidad de las instituciones universitarias.
