Based on the hypothesis that the entry of indigenous youth into high-school and university education has a marked effect on the transformation of their ethnic identity, we examine the uses that these indigenous students have for certain mass media and the meanings that they award to such media. Using a qualitative method and in-depth interviews, we analyze how the different uses and meanings of film, television, and radio symbolize the process of identity transition for these youth who have migrated to Monterrey. Similarly, we identify how the "level of education" and "ethnic group" variables have a significant explanatory weight in interpreting these identity-construction processes. 2016-07-01 2021-06-03T03:38:00Z 2021-06-03T03:38:00Z info:eu-repo/semantics/article info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/568 10.21670/ref.2016.34.a08 https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12930/6867 spa eng https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/568/1024 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/568/1025 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/568/1026 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/568/1037 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/568/1046 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/568/1056 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/568/1424 https://ref.uabc.mx/ojs/index.php/ref/article/view/568/1425 Derechos de autor 2016 Estudios Fronterizos application/pdf application/epub+zip text/xml application/pdf text/xml application/epub+zip text/html text/html Boundary Monterrey, San Luis Potosi and Veracruz, Mexico; XXI century Frontera entre Monterrey, San Luis Potosí y Veracruz, México; Siglo XXI Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Estudios Fronterizos Revista; Vol. 17 No. 34 (2016); 137-158 Estudios Fronterizos; Vol. 17 Núm. 34 (2016); 137-158 2395-9134 0187-6961
