The catalyst zinc oxide is synthesized from zinc nitrate hexahydrate at 500 °C in air flow during one hour. The catalytic reaction produced a total gas volume of 790 mL and the hydrogen in mixture is quantified by gas chromatography. The optimum conditions for the conversion of biomass to hydrogen are 15 % w/ w of catalyst with 125 mg of biomass at 800 °C; obtaining a hydrogen production of 66.3 %, other gases 19.7 % and residual carbon 14 %. En este trabajo de investigación experimental se realiza la descomposición por pirólisis catalítica de la cáscara de nuez nogal (Juglans regia L.) en un intervalo de 400 °C a 800 ° C sobre óxido de zinc para la obtención de hidrógeno. El óxido de zinc se sintetiza a partir de nitrato de zinc hexahidratado a 500 °C en flujo de aire durante 1 hora. La reacción catalítica produce un volumen total de gases de 790 mL y el hidrógeno se cuantifica por cromatografía de gases.
