This paper presents advances in research on food culture in the region of Santa María Tecuanulco, based on field work done with teenager students in that village. This population group between 12 and 15 years of age contributed very valuable and interesting information of the knowledge they have about edible local products and the way they are consumed. Las prácticas alimentarias en el medio rural de la región de Texcoco guardan relación con los hábitos de consumo alimentario local —basados en el maíz y sus derivados, principalmente—; sin embargo, en ellas influyen una serie de determinantes socioculturales que imponen las formas de consumo urbano-dominantes, como resultado de la constante interacción de las culturas originarias con la vida urbana y su acceso a diversos medios de comunicación. En este documento se presentan avances de una investigación sobre la cultura alimentaria de adolescentes de Santa María Tecuanulco. A partir de su experiencia cotidiana, los participantes —estudiantes de entre 12 y 15 años de edad— aportaron información sobre el conocimiento que tienen acerca de diversos productos locales comestibles (animales y vegetales) y de la forma en que los consumen.
